The Seminar’s objectives suggest that not
only should language policy experts be invited,
but prominent political and international advisors
as well. These experts and advisors will discuss
the legal status of languages, linguistic aspects
of consumer protection, language teaching, the
relation between native languages and official
languages within a state, and the place of languages
in specialist communications, trade, international
organizations, international negotiations, etc.

at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro.

Languages of the Seminar |

The official languages of the Seminar are English,
French, Portuguese and Spanish. Simultaneous interpretation
will be available.

Union Latine and the PUC-RIO.

Expected Results |

The Seminar’s objective will be to implement
the resolutions made in Quebec City and Asunción
by creating the necessary instruments.
A detailed plan of action will be prepared
by setting up specific working groups in order
to produce detailed initiatives to encourage
a renaissance in the region’s languages.

Attendees |
| |
Some 120 to 180 persons from various countries
of the Americas, in particular language and language-policy
experts, as well as officials (members of parliament,
government officials, representatives from international
organizations) concerned with language management
in the Americas. A number of students are also
expected to attend.
